Based in 2000 in Paris, the CALIENTE Quartet combines four soloists fascinated by the Tango Nuevo. He takes away in 2004 “Piazzolla Music Award” awarded to Blue Note Jazz Club of Milan. He records immediately his first album ” Libertango ” together with the French Vibraphone player Vincent Maillard for the label Aeon / Harmonia Mundi.
The Caliente Quartet occurs regularly on the international scene (Brazil, Italy, Switzerland and Belgium) as well as in most of the Festivals and the concert halls in Paris and in France (The European Theatre, New Morning, « Jazz Club Petit Journal Montparnasse », Le Duc des Lombards, the Mouffetard Theatre, the Floral Park, the musical season of Radio France, the National stages of Tulle and Château Gontier, the Festival of Toulon and its region, Musical of Cormeilles, the season of Abbaye de l’Epau etc…)
The members of the Quartet Caliente interpret with a rare strength the compositions of Astor Piazzolla, Horacio Salgan, Julian Plaza, Anibal Troïlo, Pedro Laurenz and Alejandro Scarpino. Avid to make live the Tango of our time, he widens this directory towards composers such as Juan José Mosalini, Antonio Agri, Pablo Ziegler, Thomas Bordalejo and Gustavo Beytelmann who composes for the group” El Desaparecido ” then “Otras Voces”, created in the Abbey of Epau together with Vincent Maillard.
Their performances are regularly critically acclaimed. After “Libertango”, the Quartet Caliente records two other disks always at Aeon Label, the one with the Argentine singer Débora Russ, then “Encuentro”, together with the guitarist Laurent Colombani and with the Vibraphone player Vincent Maillard, finding in particular the original formation of Nuevo Tango d’ Astor Piazzolla’s quintet with Camorra I, II and III as well as three compositions of Gustavo Beytelmann. “Encuentro” is a door open to the rhythms, melodies, harmonies and accentuations of the world of today.
Since their creation, the Caliente Quartet is regularly invited and spread on the waves of French Radio France Musique (« On ideal Tuesday », directly from the Festivals, « the Morning »), of France Inter (the Jesters, Pop José Artur’s club), of France Télévision (« The words of midnight ») as well as radios TSF, FIP and the music channel Mezzo.
